Sitting in Smokey Joe's close-to-the-strairs-to-the-urinal section, I heard the guy next to me ask "Did you like that documentary tonight?" I recognized him from the class we both were blowing off, skipping out at the break. He was asking about the first part of the class which showed a film called Vernon, Florida. The only significant piece of the subject matter was that it captured dialogue from some zany characters. I shrugged my shoulders and said "it was OK, what did you think?" Turns out the guy was wackier than any of those in the film. He swore he was George Dixon, the commander of the H.L. Hunley, a submarine used by the Confederates in the Civil War, reincarnated and in total recall of sinking the USS Housatonic in 1864. Instead of ignoring him or encouraging him to clarify, I just looked him forlornly and directly and said "that's cool but I'm headed for discovering true love and I'm closer than I ever thought possible". The guy asks "what's that got to do with channeling your former life?" And I said "nothing, but it gets us started on what will be one long conversation that's now Love Without Edges". "Pretty stupid way to begin" he offers "but let's hear what you've got". Now this never happened but everything that follows really did. Tomorrow will tell plenty about star-crossed lovers. Promise.
